Scenic boat trips on Rhine are a popular way of sightseeing the Rhine Valley which is home to vineyards, castles, rolling hills and small villages. There is a boat service between all small villages on the Rhine. During the summer season from May to September there are several daily services on the busiest parts of the river. Traveling to Cologne to Mainz takes more than 10 hours, but there are smaller trips available. Try for example the cruise from Bingen to Koblenz.
